Strengthening and advancing collaboration with external communities

Office of Community Engagement

Main content start

Together, we create community as a common endeavor, enlivening our culture and commitment to place.

Since its founding, Stanford University has embraced the responsibility to use research and education to make a difference in society.

Core to this vision is the aspiration that Stanford collaborates with others to harness its assets and capabilities to address needs that are felt more broadly by the communities where we engage.

To that end, the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) works across units to further Stanford as an engaged university: an institution that fosters collaboration on and off campus and helps Stanford faculty and their students do meaningful work in the world. Marshaling Stanford optimism and ingenuity, OCE focuses efforts primarily to:

  • Support the needs of our neighbors in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

  • Welcome the local to global public to campus.

  • Connect people to benefit communities and develop affinity to mission and place.

We are dedicated to demonstrating how a global research university realizes its mission through effective engagement on the issues crucial to our shared future.
